Zero Waste – Recycle Your Coffee

Recycling coffee grounds is not only beneficial for gardeners but it also helps to reduce the amount of waste going into landfills. Everyday across the South East, hundreds of coffees are brewed, and millions of pounds of wet grounds are thrown away. We did some research and found some positive ways you could reuse your coffee grounds;

Natural Fertiliser

Mixing dry grounds into the soil will help many plants flourish. Coffee mixed with soil can be used as a natural fertiliser. Used coffee grounds can provide gardens with an abundant source of nutrition. Recycling coffee grounds also helps to feed worms, and keeps troublesome insects away. Earthworms love to feed on used coffee grounds!

Fight Garden Pests

If you have a slug or ant problem then use the grounds as a barrier and see what happens…

Natural Wood Stain

You could also use coffee as a satin for wood. Just stew the old coffee grinds in water for a couple of hours then you can use the juice to stain wood. It’s great for touching up scratches, is a lot easier to use and certainly smells better.
